The agonizing wires, the frequent pruning, The limits on freedom and the forced bending

A space so shallow, the oft snipped roots The forbidden depths, and the curbs on shoots

What may have prompted the artist to so severely maim A seedling with potential to live without restrain

An art form they call it, an innovation An exercise in patience and contemplation

Alas, the artist is only human With injustice all around Hoping a seedling could teach him To grow without bound

He may seem ruthless, but there's no spite Just reassurance that his mind seeks, that one can grow despite

Despite the boundaries and the obstacles Conquering the fears and all the shackles

Into a fully formed tree, that can even give shade And bear fruit, and live for what it is made

Yes, injustice does happen, it may even be full of spite But as long as there is life, The Bonsai chooses to live despite!
